Light resin transfer molding (Light RTM) has gained popularity as a clean, efficient, and scalable way to produce composite parts with excellent consistency. Unlike traditional RTM, Light RTM uses lower pressures and lighter tooling, making it more cost-effective while still delivering high-quality results.
The process uses a matched mold system that allows resin to flow smoothly between layers of reinforcement. Because the mold controls both the outer surface and internal geometry, Light RTM produces parts with consistent wall thickness, good surface finish, and minimal post-processing.
For OEMs, Light RTM offers several key benefits:
- Lower tooling costs compared to heavy RTM or autoclave tooling
- Reduced labor and faster cycle times
- Clean processing with less finishing required
- Suitability for medium-volume production
- Excellent repeatability and dimensional accuracy
Light RTM is a strong fit for components such as body panels, marine structures, housings, covers, interior components, and other parts where lightweight durability is critical.
When a project calls for a balance of performance, aesthetics, and efficiency, Light RTM is often the ideal solution.
